Revision as of 03:06, 18 October 2025

The Construction of District One is a major construction project for the first habitable district in the colony city of Artemis.

Project Plan

District One will unfold in a series of six stages. For each stage, players must provide a certain amount of raw materials to the assembler in the Mobile Base, and also meet a few RP benchmarks.

The stages are as follows:

Stage 1: Leveling and Trenchwork - COMPLETE

The construction work begins in earnest by levelling the site and digging/reinforcing trenches where necessary.

Materials Required: 200 shards of obsidian and 200 chunks of limestone mined to level the site; 10 steel support beams (requiring 100,000 grams of steel.)

RP Requirements:  Staff-led RPT to follow once material requirements are met.

Reward: [New Resource Discovered - Added Crafting Recipes!]

Finished: 2/17/2177

Stage 2: Finalizing Design - COMPLETE

The team must decide on the full shape of District One to finalize blueprints.

Materials: 50 shards of obsidian + 50 chunks of limestone + 5 support beams, as the leveled-off site receives final polishing in preparation.

RP Requirements:

- Investigate the mushrooms and spores in the newly-revealed cavern to determine if they pose any danger;

- District 1 Team Meeting.

A blueprint from Millensky's drafting team will be presented at this meeting for feedback. Either at the meeting, in discussion with Millensky, or in a node, the following must be submitted by players:

  • Waste Management: Brief description of waste management plans and issues.
  • ACC Liaison: Brief description of largest security risks foreseen.
  • Cultural Liaison: Brief description of intended historical monuments/spaces.
  • Community Liaison: Brief description of public desires for District One.
  • Hydroponics Agronomist: Brief description of the intended planting strategy.

Reward: Initial Rooms for D1 Created!

Finished: 5/29/2177

Stage 3: Subfloor Construction - COMPLETE

With the blueprint decided, the team must create the steel subfloor with its seismic cushioning and lay the conduits for utilities.

Materials:

  • 10 seismic shock absorbers;
    • Made from: 10 steel support beams (assemble steel-support-beam) + 10 sets of shock absorber rings (assemble shock-absorber-rings)
  • 20 sheets of steel plating (assemble steel-plating) to lay the subfloor base and walls;
  • 50 lengths of copper pipe (assemble copper-pipe) to establish the major plumbing lines through District 1;
  • 20 spools of wiring (assemble wiring-cable) to lay out the central electrical lines from the Solar Farm.

RP Requirements: Staff-Led RPT

Reward: [New Resource Discovered - Added Crafting Recipes!]

Finished: 7/19/2077

Stage 4: Dome Initial Assembly - UNDERWAY

An initial frame for the Dome must go up, enclosing the space in temporary plastic so it can be oxygenated for heavy work.

Materials:

TO COMPLETE THIS PHASE...

  • 30 hexagonal dome panels must be completed.
    • Each requires three steel support beams and a set of heavy bolts for a total of 30,000 steel and 5,000 iron apiece.

This will be enough of a framework for temporary plastic sheeting to hold air and enable heavy construction labor on the other spaces of the District, while the glass panels are being constructed.

TO FINISH DISTRICT ONE...

The dome will have to be actually completed and glassed. The very top and bottom of it will be dark obsidian glass; several layers near but not at the very top will be clear soda-lime glass to allow appropriate light and warmth in; the rest can be constructed of blends of the two of varying tint, less strictly shaded. In other words:

  • 30 additional hexagonal dome panels to complete the frame;
  • 20 panes of soda-lime glass for the perfectly clear central layers of glass;
  • 2,000,000 grams of glass in the District 1 Mobile Base assembler for the remaining tinted layers.

RP Requirements:

  • Player RP at the site for dome construction - at least 1 scene of 3+ players putting up the dome frame.
  • Completed research on the Cryopod Algae Oxygen Generator through ticketing.

Reward: Oxygen added to D1 site - potentially crafting recipes!

Stage 5: Outdoor Spaces

With the frame up, planting in the outdoor spaces within the District can begin.

Materials: [To Be Revealed]

RP Requirements:

  • Hydroponics Agronomist: Submit list of plants for outdoor spaces
  • Community Liaison: Submit park designs.

Reward: [Descriptions updated; Added Crafting Recipes!]

Stage 6: Indoor Spaces

This stage will require a great deal of material cost, as the buildings themselves are constructed and made habitable. It will be opened at the same time as Stage 5, and likely continuing for some time.

Materials: [To Be Revealed]

RP Requirements: Final plans from the various specialists. (Overall, anything we need to know to finish room descriptions from Waste Management, Security, Cultural, Community, or Hydroponics.)

Reward: District One goes live! Staff RPT to open it up.

Project Roles

Here is a list of project roles and their required factions. If you wish to take a role, communicate with staff.

Chief Habitat Engineer Danny Harris

Turns the settlement’s wish-list into a buildable spec; balances mass budget, pressure load, and cost. Must be a Stroitel Ventures Engineer. If vacant, the Chief Habitat Engineer is Jaskov Millensky.

Responsibilities

  • Receives meaningful management experience of one of the most impressive projects.
  • Lead efforts and organize meetings.
  • Determine the name of the various rooms of the project.

(OOC: This role will be the leader of the project and it is expected to be someone who can see this long project to the end. This is a management role handling budgets, payouts, etc.)

Structural Engineer [VACANT]

Calculates dome geometry, shell thickness, sealing interfaces. Must be a Stroitel Ventures Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and texture of visible support ribs, trusses and pressure bulkheads (organic arches, hex-grid ribs, buttressed pylons).
  • Number, size and locking mechanism of airlock vestibules in each zone.
  • Catwalks, elevator shafts and maintenance hatches players can climb or crawl through.

Life-Support Systems Engineer Evangeline Velsori

Designs and maintains the closed-loop O2/CO2, water-reclaim and temperature-control network that will keep the dome habitable.

Must be a CyGene Rapid Response Medical Medic (or cross-licensed contractor).

Responsibilities

  • Look & feel of the Life-Support systems.
  • Ambient climate zone: determine the optimal temperature of this scenario.
  • Smell/ambience cues (“ozone tang near the scrubbers,” “earthy scent of algae bloom at shift change”).
